C.L.A.S.S. at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays
Pastor Jon Church will soon begin another session of C.L.A.S.S. (Christian Life and Service Seminar).  These hourly sessions, held on Sunday mornings over a ten-week period, serve to introduce persons to the fellowship and ministry opportunities through Katy Park Baptist Church.  Since we have people from many different church backgrounds, this seminar is designed to clearly explain the purpose and direction of our church.  The purpose of C.L.A.S.S. is to help you become all that God wants you to be, by learning to grow in Christ and serve Him gladly.  If you're interested in participating in this next session, please contact Jon Church to express your interest.  We would love to have you join us!

Church Matching Mission Project
In order to renovate our sanctuary and build a new sign for our church, we are challenging each other to raise money for other mission projects.  Once we have raised a certain amount for mission projects, the church will match that for our two projects.  Mission projects include the Missouri Flood Victims in Watson, the Embassy Homeless Shelters, tornado victims both at home and a church in Joplin, MO, and Haiti.  Our goal is to collect a minimum of $23,000.  To date, we've collected 75% of our goal.  Please prayerfully consider your participation and/or monetary contributions to these worthy causes.

Reaching Out in Our Community
Members of Katy Park will be preparing and serving meals at the Community Cafe on the third Tuesday of each even-numbered month (June 19, August 21, October 16, and December 18).  If you are interested in donating food supplies and/or helping prepare/serve the meals, please check out the sign up sheets at the Ministry Table or contact Andrea Hurst.  Those involved in meal preparation and serving should plan on being at the Cafe from approximately 3:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.

S.A.G. Group Meets Monthly
The Senior Adults of Katy Park, ages 55 and older, have a great time of fellowship as they meet on the second Friday of each month.  The meetings, held in the Fellowship Hall, begin at Noon with a contributory lunch, with meat and drink provided, followed by a devotional or guest speaker.  The meetings are concluded by 2:00 p.m.  For details or questions, please contact Joyce Lilly.  A future event you probably won't want to miss is our November 16 trip to the Lyceum Theater.  We will be seeing "A Sanders Family Christmas" and eating dinner at a local restaurant.  Tickets are $16 per person if we have at least 10 or more going.  It's not too early to contact Sherrill Rowland about tickets.

Spring Life Groups Begin New Studies
The Adult Life Groups will soon begin new studies on Sunday mornings from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.  The Adult I Class, led by David McCandless, will embark on an indepth study of the Book of Revelation.  The Adult II Class, led by Thom Crosier and Scott Breid, will be cover topics on ways to balance spiritual growth, examination of the miracles of Jesus and what they reveal about who He is and what He desires to do in and through us, and how an indepth study of the life of Moses can help believers deepen their walk with God.  The Men's Class will be delving into the Book of Acts, and the Friends Class will once again be using the Access Materials designed specifically for the mentally challenged.  The Women's Class will do an indepth study of our High Priest, Jesus Christ, through the study of Hebrews.  If you haven't already plugged into a small group, these studies will be a great opportunity to connect with fellow class members.

Reaching Out in Love
Every other Wednesday evening, teams are making home visits to recent visitors, inactive members, etc.  on behalf of the Church.  If you would like to participate on a team or know of someone you would like to receive a visit, please contact Brent Cloud, who will be coordinating our efforts.  Jo Ann Birdsong has graciously volunteered to bake her famous homemade cinnamon rolls for each team to take to the home they are visiting.  This is a great way to get to connect with new people who are checking out our church and to reconnect with those we haven't seen for a while.

AOK OUTREACH
Get ready for an "AOK" (Acts of Kindness) Summer!  We are going to be serving our community with random AOKs mainly on Wednesday nights.  On May 2, we reached out to approximately 200 people, serving them hotdogs as they came out of Walmart.  Future AOKs may include pumping gas at a local service station, giving away bottled water to people in the parks, bagging groceries at local grocery stores, a laundry mat ministry, adopting a school in the fall, and many more.  Our next AOK will be on May 23 during our normal prayer service time.  If you are unable to participate in the AOK, we welcome your prayers that evening.

Sunday Night Studies to Begin...
For the next few Sunday nights, the adults are going to be learning more about Radical Islam and the war against the West.  Then in June, we will be offering two studies to pick from -- "Love and Respect," a great couples study, and "Guardrails," learning how to avoid regrets in your life.  Join us each Sunday evening at from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. for these valuable instruction sessions.

Out with the Old, In with the New
A much needed remodel will soon be taking place in our church sanctuary.  The walls & ceiling will be repainted, new carpet will be laid, and the pews will be replaced by interlocking padded chairs.  Beginning the evening of June 10, volunteers will be needed to help tape, paint, and remove furniture.  Preparations and painting must be completed by June 13 when new carpeting will be laid.  The existing pews will be stored until a church who needs them can be identified.  If you're interested in helping in one or more of these areas, please check out the Ministry Table and indicate your interest on the appropriate signup sheet.

Church Retreat Scheduled for Memorial Day Weekend
Members of Katy Park will converge on Heit's Point Camp for the church's second annual Church Retreat over Memorial Day Weekend.  The camp will officially start on May 26 and conclude on May 28.  Special musical guests will be New Fire.  Their lead guitarist is from FFH.  We hope you and your family can make the whole weekend, but if you can only come down for a day, that works too.  Just don't miss this opportunity for a great relaxing, spirit-filled weekend.  RETREAT, RELAX, RENEW.  Just a reminder to those families staying overnight and/or participating in the meal times:  final payments should be made prior to the weekend.

The 2012 Children's Camp for boys and girls Grades 3-6 (2011-12 School Year) will be held June 18 through 22 at Heit's Point Camp about 15 miles east of Lincoln, MO.  Co-Directors Dona Smith and Keith Rowland have announced that this year's theme will be "The Armor of God."  The directors, team leaders and staff will be meeting regularly over the next couple of months to plan the details of the camp.  Registration forms are available from our church's coordinator, K.C. Rafferty,  or by contacting the HBA Office.  Fees include registration, transportation, meals and a t-shirt.  Extra money will be needed for mission offering and snacks.   Campers will be asked to meet at East Sedalia Baptist Church, 1019 E. Fifth Street (Multi-Purpose Building using the east gym door), at 12:15 p.m. on June 18.  Campers will return to the church at approximately 3:00 p.m. on June 22.

Follow Jesus on a Life-Changing Adventure!
Vacation Bible School is just around the corner -- June 4 through 8 (6:30 to 8:30 p.m.)!  Bring your kids to SonQuest Rainforst VBS, an experience of discovery they'll never forget!  Based on five key Bible verses that will change a child's life, including John 3:16, SonQuest Rainforst VBS transports young minds into a vivid rainforest environment of jungle sounds, sights and smells, where they'll dig into the Bible and meet Jesus in every day's story.  If interrested in serving as a teacher, helper, etc., please contact Theresa Ramsey to sign up.  About 14 volunteers will be needed to make this VBS a success.  We need kids too, of course, and lots of them!  To conclude this year's VBS, the kids and their families will be treated to a Pool Party from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. at Centennial Pool on June 9.  So begin talking to your friends, neighbors, classmates, etc.

Youth Director/Pastor Search Team Hard at Work
The Youth Director/Pastor Search Team (Scott Breid, Chase Bussey, Natalie Church, Lisa Cloud, Mandy Shull and Bruce Spratley) presented a candidate on May 6 when Kris Raven and his wife, Kayla, were with us during Morning Worship. Members had the chance to hear Kris' testimony and ask any questions following the service. Kris and his family are currently living in Sweet Springs. If hired, Kris would be serving with us as an interim youth minister until we could find a more permanent candidate.  A church vote will be taken to call Kris as Interim Youth Pastor during our business meeting on May 20.

G.O.S.P.E.L. Study Begins
Youth Xtreme returns to Sunday night meetings at 6:00 p.m., with a meal, fun and Bible study!   For the next seven weeks, we will begin the six-words (God, Our, Sins, Paying, Everyone, Life) study with Propaganda that we were introduced to at the Dare2Share Conference.  Using the word "gospel," we will learn six basic principles:
God created us to be with Him.
Our sins separate us from Him.
Sins cannot be removed by good deeds.
Paying the price for sin, Jesus died and rose again.
Everyone who trusts in Him alone has eternal life.
Life with Jesus starts now and lasts forever!
